The Unified Theory of the Nervous System
and Behavior

Cognitive Philosophy /Brain Theory by Steven Michael Harris

Don’t misunderstand if this looks like an attack on Western Medicine

I can see the proponents of new-age medicine, holistic medicine, eastern medicine and all of the others on the fringe using my ideas and looking to me for support. But I believe they are doing much of the same as western medicine as any maintenance treatment is still a maintenance treatment if it is Prozac or St. Johns Wort.

The answers actually come from looking at all of the different approaches and learning from what they are doing.

In some ways, herbal approaches have been less toxic than western medical approaches because of using milder substances that are less concentrated and cause fewer side-effects. The only advantage of this in treatment is that these herbal treatments cause less damage to the body and are not as likely to get in the way of the body’s own restorative abilities.

But western medicine is the best we have for getting to the answers.

Too much of new-age medicine is based on faith at the expense of logic.

I believe in logic and my attacks on all medical approaches have only to do with their missing steps of logic.

Recent discoveries and data that have only been available in the past ten years or so have been needed to put together a unified theory and discover a cure. Almost all of the information I have needed to work out these problems has come from western medicine.

But some pieces of the puzzle also came from eastern and new-age observations as well. (I believe that the metaphors used by eastern or new age approaches to explain the body are very wrong. The metaphors used by western medicine and science to explain the workings of the body are slightly wrong. But slightly wrong is still wrong. The right metaphors and language to explain these things will explain the therapies used by any approach.)

The discovery of a unified theory is not possible without the kind of medical system we have today. We have needed to make these mistakes in order to find the right answers. There is no other way to figure it all out.

Many of the problems of medicine, biology, psychology and philosophy require an understanding of the basic mathematical principles behind how the nervous system does what it does to achieve function and experience, and that mathematics is not explained using narrowly-focused statistics. Understanding how this math works will be the tool for the discovery of many answers of great importance to humanity. The case for this concept and the offering of an explanation of this kind of math is made in the many essays of this website.

On these pages you will find ideas that should haunt you. Included are new concepts in science, medicine, sociology, evolutionary psychology, philosophy and more...

This website and the podcasts of Everyone's Revolution explain how the brain creates the mind, but many side issues must be resolved in order to teach this material. Once you realize that the "hard problems" are really the first problems to be answered, you then have a tool for changing all of science and medicine by explaining a massive number of discoveries that will fall into line in order to unify the evidence. All of the evidence is good. The interpretations of the evidence are mistaken in many cases. For ten years now there have been new discoveries of evidence that all move in the direction of supporting this theory (or this school of many theories) and its predictions. Quite a few people have started to pay attention to this theory as well.
