Kam graduated from Middlebury High School, Middlebury, Vermont in 2005. He was on the ski team and graduated with honors.
He graduated from the Honors College of The University of Vermont in May, 2009 with honors with a double major of Physics and Mathematics. He received a NASA Space Grant Research Fellowship that is allowing him to work for several months on mathematics projects intended for publication... then he will go to Chile for most of a year on a Fullbright Scholarship on a project to apply mathematics to the transportation schedules of the Santiago area.

Here is the cabin where he lived a year in the mountains of Vermont until a neighbor attacked him and threatened him with a gun there in the middle of the night. The city seemed safer after this... but he didn't mind breaking the ice in the stream in the winter for water or using the outhouse there.
